Thinking outside the box – Film distribution in the digital era (Talk)

Named one of ‘10 Digital Directors to Watch’ by Daily Variety, Jon Reiss produced and directed Bomb It, a feature film about graffiti and the battle over visual public space. Based on his experience releasing with a hybrid strategy, he wrote Think Outside the Box Office: The Ultimate Guide to Film Distribution in the Digital Era. In this session, he shares innovative tools and strategies for filmmakers to distribute and promote their films in an overcrowded marketplace.

Super Wild Horses (Concert / Album Launch)

Punk has two pretty, new faces.

Super Wild Horses have just released their first 12-inch, Fifteen which they recorded on an 8-track in one weekend, on their own. It’s the eve of their launch tour so you can see just how DIY they are when they’re onstage too, playing multiple instruments simultaneously, which Franz says started “because there [is just] two of us. We never really thought about having any extra people in the band.”

Aroma Festival

Gang (Exhibition)

GANG is an exhibition showcasing the depth of creative networking between Java and Sydney over the last decade. Gang is a celebration of the past, present and future of a wealth of collaborative exchanges that have occurred through the creative networks active in ‘Gang Festival’ (Sydney) and its sister festival ‘Festival Mata Air’, based in Central Java.

This exhibition also marks the inaugural launch of ‘Gang Installations’, a new art installation company and the birth of the next phase in Gang Collaborations.

In his first and only Australian appearance, Stephen Fry comes to Sydney Opera House to discuss travel, art, TV, madness and everything in between in a  90 minute exclusive talk. The event will involve a 45 minute talk by Fry and then 45 minutes of Q&A with well known ABC TV presenter and journalist Jennifer Byrne.

The Strokes (Concert)

It’s been a long time between drinks for THE STROKES. But in early 2009, it was announced that, following a long hiatus, the band were writing new material for an upcoming album.

Cut to 2010 and THE STROKES are in their hometown of New York City recording their 4th album with Grammy award winning producer Joe Chiccarelli who has worked with U2, Beck and My Morning Jacket among others.

Colony Collapse (Exhibition)

Colony Collapse continues Zettel and Khoe’s ongoing collaborative project to micro-farm pockets of the city, setting up temporary site offices from which to launch sensible and/or absurd experiments in urban self-sufficiency. At Firstdraft the artists will be investigating the possibilities for small-scale mobile honey production, as they research and construct a hybrid beehive-food cart destined for Sydney’s Circular Quay. With food crisis, suburban sprawl and the colony’s precarious histories (and futures) on their minds, Zettel and Khoe invite audiences in to smell the flowers and talk to the bees.

Inside Out (3D Print Exhibition)

Forty-six Australian and international artists are contributing works for this show within dimensions of 6×6x6..  All the pieces have been designed using incredibly complicated 3D modelling software that allows for really intricate and delicate virtual constructions, which are then turned into objects using 3D print technology.

The Cell (Interactive Art)

Enter the creative journey of one of Australia’s most exciting conceptual artists. Working in photography, neon, screen print, mixed media, installation and public art, Brook Andrew has produced visually dazzling work.

The Cell is an immersive installation, featuring a 13-metre-by-six-metre inflatable rectangle that requires the audience to don a costume, designed by Andrew, before crawling via a tunnel into a striped cell.
